Mac and General packages updated. Speech to text support comes to MacOS 10.13+
The end of 2019 saw a new release of the Gargoyle IF interpreter after an approximately eight year gap. There's double good news for Leadlight Gamma with this release:
- It finally brings text to speech support to Macs, at least those running MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
- It makes sure the game runs on MacOS 10.15 (Catalina)
I have recreated the Mac and General download packages on itch.io to reflect these updates, and included or linked to the new version of Gargoyle where appropriate. Older versions are still included/linked.
The text to speech addition is quite a big deal. I released Leadlight Gamma in 2015 with a thorough screen reader mode. It might have been the first parser game to have such a mode, though I can't be sure. Unfortunately, the benefits of this mode couldn't be exploited on any Mac at the time, only on Windows. That problem is now gone, leaving only an obscure audio bug to be dealt with by some future update to Gargoyle.
